Character Beanies

The Magic Yarn Project gifts over two dozen different styles of character beanies to children all over the world. Each one is lovingly made by hand by volunteers just like you! View our full library of FREE patterns below.

Not an Approved Crocheter?

While we firmly believe that anyone can make Magic, we want you to be successful right from the start at making the best possible beanies for little cancer fighters.

Find out more about getting important feedback on your creations from trained Magic Yarn leaders:

✨ Character Beanie Tips & Tricks:

  • Character beanies do not require elastic.
  • To ensure that your work stays durable and comfortable for little cancer fighters, please choose from the approved brands and colors of yarn listed below for each character. For striped beanies using multiple colors, please use the same brand of yarn for the whole beanie. If you have questions about approved yarns, you may contact one of our Donation Location leaders here
  • Please ensure your beanie is right side out before attaching pieces and parts.
  • If you have a pattern you’d like to donate, please email us at southwest@themagicyarnproject.com.

We are often asked about which styles of character beanies are most popular or are needed most, and the short answer is that it’s probably a tie! Since our selection is so large, we don’t really have certain styles that we go through more of than others. We encourage Magic Makers to create the beanies that they enjoy making. We can guarantee that each one will bring smiles and cheer to a child who needs it the most.
