Our Impact

We share moments of Magic with children and families all across the world. Our volunteers make it possible.

A local workshop in Florida drew me to The Magic Yarn Project. I saw an adorable workshop setup in Joann’s Fabric with displays of completed wigs and character beanies. I was shopping for fabric and I literally stopped in my tracks and starting asking what it was all about! Not long afterward I was fortunate to connect with more leaders local to me and learn even more about MYP and all the wonderful details that go into every wig and character beanie.

The mission keeps me involved. I truly love contributing to an organization that focuses on bringing so many smiles to so many sweet little faces. I’m very proud to be a Magic Maker.

Initially I was looking for a project where I could crochet but didn’t have to look for someone to give my goods to. This was perfect for me. Then I got cancer and really realized what these kids go through with cancer. It more than gave me the desire to make wigs or a hat that would put a smile on a little girl or boy. And I really like making the wigs.

A couple of weeks after sending in my first wig (Moana), a picture was posted on The Magic Yarn Project’s Facebook page of a sweet girl named Lily who received my wig. It was instantly impactful and hooked me for life!
Now I keep going because it’s a way that I can put some good into the world, when it seems like there is so much negativity. I love the chance to bring smiles to those in the heaviest situations.

I was drowning in depression … I just needed something I could give with no deadlines, and crochet was something I really enjoyed. There are children in my rural area who are fighting for life and this is a way I can help someone’s kids. The depression is much much better! And I love having pictures of things I’ve accomplished!

As a member of Lions Clubs International, the largest service organization in the world, I was looking for something that would fit in with one of our services for those in need and childhood cancer was what I was focusing on. When I found The Magic Yarn Project, I felt in my heart that this was something that I really connected with.  I was quickly “hooked” and I have been participating ever since. I have been talking about it to all the Lions in California that I come in contact with, since benefitting kids with cancer is high on the list of what we do. I love the idea of being able to put a smile on little cancer warrior’s face. I love what I do.

My granddaughter battled brain cancer for 2 years. I found this site after she passed. She would have loved a wig, many times she asked me to braid her very sparse hair like Ariel’s. I give back for her.
